Not there yet

Thursday 24 June 2010 at 9:00 pm With 100 racing miles under my wheels since the last evening 10, I was hoping for a bit better than 24:26, but with the wind coming from the West and dropping, the course wasn't at its fastest, although Peter seemed to do OK on it.

Woke up this morning...

Sunday 20 June 2010 at 12:00 pm ..at 3:30am. That's more last night than this morning by my usual standards. Weetabix, toast with the rare and delicious Bonne Maman bitter orange marmalade and some Big Tom, and I was on the road at 4:00, before the sun had come up. Driving time to Rake at that time was bang on the predicted one hour, so plenty of time to sign on and deal with the bothersome arm numbers before facing the rather bracing climb from the HQ to the start. Riding the bumps

Sunday 13 June 2010 at 12:00 pm 2:15:24 on the H50/1, with the joyful prospect every 15 miles of turning into both a headwind and the speed killing expansion joints at the Pangbourne lane end, although some resurfacing has at least cut the number of obstacles which one has to cross. Somewhere along the way, my seatpost slipped and I ended up sitting almost two inches lower than I started. A highly consistent ride, with my ongoing average speed at the western turn varying by just 0.1mph between the first and fourth times around, unlike the chap who caught me for a minute after about 18 miles, who I caught back after 40 miles and then dropped for five more minutes in the last 10 miles.

Out of sequence

Wednesday 09 June 2010 at 9:00 pm Due to a slight cock up on the scheduling front, I didn't switch to the Wednesday race until after I'd gone long on the Tuesday training, and I could really feel it in the first mile. Fortunately, the pain went away and while I never quite had a spring in my step, I did have a solid ride once I got over the early hump and recorded a tolerable 25:06

Built for comfort

Sunday 06 June 2010 at 5:00 pm New Vision elbow pads on the tri-bars to replace the ludicrously thin Easton ones made for a comfortable ride, but with a headwind on the Drift Road it was never going to be fast, so I settled for consistent. With just 5 seconds difference between lap 2 and 3, I at least managed that, and the eventual 1:07:09 was consistent with my form and placed me in the right place in the field. (more)

Not Fresh

Thursday 03 June 2010 at 9:00 pm 24:56 was satisfactory under the circumstances, after a fairly brisk workout last night in training left me less fresh than I would usually be for Thursday night racing.
